Private Equity firms are often viewed as “the” end goal for any students pursuing a career in Corporate Finance. These firms are usually small, but managing large pool of cash, investing in private companies, hoping to make good returns.
Why are these firms so sexy? Because they are more elitist, even more than Investment Banking, because when they make money, they make tonnes of money and also, they are believed to be more balanced in term of work/ social life.
The questions all students/ young professionals who are looking at the industry is “what are the private equity firms hiring juniors?”.

Terra Firma is a UK-based private equity firm. Financier Guy Hands founded the firm in 2002 through the spin-off of Nomura Principal Finance Group. The firm, which traces its roots to the formation of its predecessor in 1994, has invested over €14 billion since inception.
Terra Firma invests across a range of sectors and has focused on leveraged buyouts of large, asset-rich businesses, often with complex structural or regulatory issues. The firm often targets under-performing businesses in need of strategic, operational or management change.
Terra Firma is headquartered in London with offices in Frankfurt, Guernsey and Beijing. It has a staff of over 90 employees.

Blackstone’s private equity business has been one of the largest investors in leveraged buyout transactions over the last decade, while its real estate business has actively acquired commercial real estate. Since its inception, Blackstone has completed investments in such notable companies as Hilton Worldwide, Equity Office Properties, Republic Services, AlliedBarton, United Biscuits, Freescale Semiconductor, Vivint and Travelport.
Blackstone was founded in 1985 as a mergers and acquisitions boutique by Peter G. Peterson and Stephen A. Schwarzman, who had previously worked together at Lehman Brothers, Kuhn, Loeb Inc. Over the course of two decades, Blackstone has evolved into one of the world’s largest private equity investment firms. In 2007, Blackstone completed a $4 billion initial public offering to become one of the first major private equity firms to list shares in its management company on a public exchange. Blackstone is headquartered in New York City, with eight additional offices in the United States, as well as offices in London, Paris, Düsseldorf, Sydney, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Madrid, Mumbai, and Dubai.

Silver Lake is an American private equity firm focused on leveraged buyout and growth capital investments in technology, technology-enabled and related industries. Founded in 1999, the firm is an investment firm in the technology sector.
Notable among its investments are Avago, Dell, Alibaba, Go Daddy, William Morris Endeavor/IMG, Avaya, Sabre Holdings, Skype, Seagate Technology and Instinet.

Cinven is a European private equity firm founded in 1977 with offices in Guernsey, London, Paris, Frankfurt, Milan, Luxembourg and Hong Kong.
Currently, the company has raised five funds, with the last one signing up 5 billion euros. Cinven is solely focused on European acquisitions and buyouts, with investment coming from over 111 institutional investors from 22 countries.
Cinven’s funding base originally came solely from three UK pension funds (British Coal, the Railway Industry and Barclays Bank) who remain as important investors. Cinven has been reported to originally stand for Coal Investment Nominees’ for Venture Capital.
Cinven invests in six sectors on an international basis: Business Services; Consumer; Financial Services; Healthcare; Industrials; and TMT.
Cinven does not recruit graduates, but they do recruit long-term interns regularly.
3i Group plc is a multinational private equity and venture capital company headquartered in London, United Kingdom. It has offices in 13 countries across the Americas, Asia and Europe and had total assets under management of £12.9 billion as at 31 March 2013.

Goldman Sachs Capital Partners
Goldman Sachs Capital Partners is the private equity arm of Goldman Sachs, focused on leveraged buyout and growth capital investments globally.
The group, which is based in New York City, was founded in 1986. GS Capital Partners has raised approximately $39.9 billion since inception across seven funds and has invested over $17 billion. On April 23, 2007, Goldman closed GS Capital Partners VI with $20 billion in committed capital, $11 billion from institutional and high-net-worth investors and $9 billion from Goldman Sachs and its employees. GS Capital Partners VI is the current primary investment vehicle for Goldman Sachs to make large, privately negotiated equity investments.
